A Student Council is a group of student leaders who work with an adult advisor to collaborate with others in order to  impact their school community, as well as their respective city or town, in hopes of eventually impacting their state, country and world as a whole. It’s members aim to provide a means for student expression and assistance in school affairs and activities, give opportunities for student experience in leadership and encourage student / faculty / community relations.

Student Council is an important pillar in teaching our students about democracy as well as how to organize themselves, express their opinions and debate different topics/points of view. STUCO also serves as a medium to develop proposals for the improvement of the well-being and education of students, for them to achieve consensus and agreements without discrimination, handle conflicts and learn to respect one another. It serves as a democratic platform for students to exercise their rights and responsibilities as citizens and learn to live in a culture of peace.

According to the Honduran Ministry of Education, Student Governments also constitute pedagogical spaces, since through learning of diverse content and curricular axes, such as citizenship, democracy, cultural identity, and entrepreneurship all promote a greater sense of identity, and belonging within their educational centers and environment.
